Title: Consideration and possible acceptance of a grant from The State of Nevada Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety in the amount of $5,800 to be used for the purchase of four (4) Brazos Handheld Traffic Devices that will be used to complete automated traffic citations and collision reports for the improved accuracy and timeliness of data collection.

Agenda Item Brief:

The State of Nevada Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety is offering a Limited Fixed Deliverable Grant to the Sparks Police Department in the amount of $5,800 for the purchase of four Brazos Handheld Traffic Devices.

Background:

The State of Nevada Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety offers a Limited Fixed Deliverable grant opportunity to all law enforcement agencies in Nevada who participate in the Joining Forces program to fund training and equipment that focuses on the reduction of traffic injury and fatality within their jurisdiction. The Sparks Police Department was awarded $5,800 to purchase four handheld devices for the use in the field. Officers will be able to decrease the amount of time entering collision and citation information and improve accuracy of the data entered. Additionally, officers can quickly process and download the information and supply the data to the state as mandated.

Analysis:

The grant award of $5,800 will allow officers to create citations and enter collision data directly into our records system in a timely and accurate manner without unreasonable delay.

Alternatives:

The city can elect to decline the grant funds.

Recommended Motion:

I move to accept the State of Nevada Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety grant in the amount of $5,800.
