Agenda Item Brief:

Equipment Services is requesting authorization to spend $155,149.00 to replace four patrol vehicles for the Police Department.

Background:

This request is for the replacement of four patrol vehicles #241K, #244J, #260C, and #742A. These vehicles have reached the end of their life cycle. These vehicles have had their life cycles extended, and now the maintenance costs are exceeding the worth of the vehicles for police service.

The Tahoe 4X2 #241K will be reused as a replacement for another older vehicle in the fleet.

Analysis:

In sourcing these vehicles, if approved, the City would be using the joinder provision allowed under NRS 332.195, and purchasing these vehicles utilizing the State of Nevada vehicle bid. Utilizing existing bids have historically been the most competitive. Utilizing the “joinder” provision allows the City to precisely define the vehicles needed while foregoing the need to formally bid the item.

Alternatives:
  1. Council could approve this purchase as outlined by staff.
  2. Council could deny this purchase.
  3. Council could direct staff to provide alternatives to this purchase.

Recommended Motion:

I move to approve the purchase of four vehicles from Champion Chevrolet in the amount of $155,149.00.
