Agenda Item Brief:

The donation consists of 13 new “down-shot” light fixtures for use in storage, utility and workshop locations.  City staff recommends approval.

Background:

Based upon the quality and reliability received from other light fixtures produced by LUX Dynamics, this brand was selected as the basis of design for the renovation of the indoor pool at Alf Sorensen Community Center.

City staff had intended to re-purpose and re-use the earlier “up-shot” light fixtures that were removed from the natatorium however the body of the earlier lights was no longer in production.   The expense of retro-fitting the lights made the option of re-purposing them as “down-shot” light fixtures impractical.  [“Up-shot” light fixtures aim the lighting upward to reflect off the ceiling, as is typical of sports facilities, while “down-shot” light fixtures aim the lighting downward to the floor, as is typical in utility rooms and workshops.]   In response, LUX Dynamics has offered to replace the old fixtures with new fixtures set-up for use in utility rooms and workshops.

Analysis:

LUX Dynamics is donating 13 “down-shot” light fixtures to replace an equal number of “up-shot” light fixtures removed in the natatorium at Alf Sorensen Community Center.  In addition, LUX Dynamics went above and beyond during the work that was performed at the Alf Sorensen Pool.  They went the full course in providing replacement light fixtures in-place of the smaller fixtures, providing technical assistance and providing man-power to help with the proper installation of the lighting during the pool project.  LUX Dynamics is and has been an exceptional lighting company to work with and continues to stand behind their product.  This donation is another example of the great work they do in the community.

Alternatives:
  1. City Council could accept the donation from LUX Dynamics of electrical light fixtures for park buildings within the City of Sparks.
  2. City Council could deny the acceptance of the donation from LUX Dynamics of electrical light fixtures for park buildings within the City of Sparks.

Recommended Motion:

I move to accept the $7,007.75 donation from LUX Dynamics of electrical light fixtures for park buildings within the City of Sparks.
