Agenda Item Brief:

Equipment Services is requesting authorization to spend $234,937 for the purchase and installation of a hooklift unit, hydraulics, a flatbed with crane, and other associated equipment.

Background:

This request is a continuation of an agenda item approved by Council on March 23, 2015 in which the purchase of a cab and chassis was approved. This agenda item provides for the up-fit of that cab and chassis with the hooklift unit. It also includes equipment that will be used with the hooklift including a flatbed with crane.

This truck will provide the City with a vehicle that can perform many tasks while only incurring the expense of one truck.

Analysis:

In sourcing these vehicles, if approved, the City would be using the joinder provision allowed under NRS 332.195. We will be purchasing these improvements by joining a bid provided to the City of Healdsburg. Utilizing existing bids have historically been the most competitive. Utilizing the “joinder” provision allows the City to precisely define the equipment needed while foregoing the need to formally bid the item.

Alternatives:
  1. Council could approve this purchase as outlined by staff.
  2. Council could deny this purchase.
  3. Council could direct staff to provide alternatives to this purchase.

Recommended Motion:

I move to approve the purchase and installation of a hooklift unit and other associated equipment from Tom’s House of Hydraulics in the amount of $234,937.
