Agenda Item Brief:

Consideration and possible award of the Recreation Center Parking Lot Phase 1 Rehabilitation to Sierra Nevada Construction, in the amount of $84,007. Staff recommends Council award the contract.

Background:

The Recreation Center parking lot is an asset included in the City’s Transportation System - Pavement Management Program.  Utilizing the City’s Pavement Management System, the parking lot at the Recreation Center was identified for rehabilitation.  Due to funding constraints the parking located at the Richards Way Recreation Center, the second phase of the project, will be bid and constructed in early FY16.

Analysis:

The project scope includes the replacement of the asphalt parking lot, drain inlets, curb and gutter, and sidewalk at the Recreation Center located at 98 Richards Way.  The City of Sparks received three (3) qualified bids for this project.  A summary of the qualified bids presented in Table 1 (attached).

  • Sierra Nevada Construction        $84,007
  • Apex Grading & Paving               $86,560
  • Spanish Springs Construction     $91,444

Alternatives:
  1. City Council could award the project as outlined by Staff.
  2. City Council could reject the proposed project and provide direction to the City Manager.

Recommended Motion:

I move to award the Recreation Center Parking Lot Phase 1 Rehabilitation to Sierra Nevada Construction, in the amount of $84,007.
