Agenda Item Brief:

Equipment Services is requesting authorization to spend $64,272.00 for the  purchase and installation of a trash truck body that will be a replacement for #520C.

Background:

A 2000 Wayne trash truck, #520C, with 185,115 miles has reached the end of its life cycle. Equipment Services has extended the usable life of this unit until it needs a complete overhaul.

The replacement for this vehicle was originally budgeted during the 2013 fiscal year, and has been carried forward into this year.

Maintenance Services utilizes trash trucks during special events and for park maintenance.

Analysis:

In sourcing these vehicles, if approved, the City would be using the joinder provision allowed under NRS 332.195, and purchasing these vehicles utilizing the HGAC purchasing consortium. Utilizing existing bids has historically been the most competitive. Utilizing the “joinder” provision allows the City to precisely define the vehicles needed while foregoing the need to formally bid the item.

Alternatives:
  1. Council could approve this purchase as outlined by staff.
  2. Council could deny this purchase.
  3. Council could direct staff to provide alternatives to this purchase.

Recommended Motion:

I move to approve this purchase and installation of one trash truck body from Wayne Engineering in the amount of $64,272.
