Agenda Item Brief: Consideration and possible approval of a contract to Peek Brothers Construction for the Howard Drive Storm Drain Realignment in the amount of $240,751.30. This project will install realign storm drain piping located in the front yards of four residences to lie within Howard Drive. The existing pipe has failed and will be abandoned. Staff recommends approval.

Background: The Howard Drive Storm Drain conveys excess irrigation water from the North Truckee Ditch back to the North Truckee Drain and ultimately the Truckee River. Storm drainage is also captured and conveyed within this system. The segment of the system to be realigned and abandoned by this project is located in the front yards of four residences on the north side of Howard Drive between Goldy Way and Fargo Way. The project is included on the approved FY14/15 CIP.

Analysis:

Project design was completed for this project in FY 13/14. The Howard Drive Storm Drain Realignment project Notice to Bidders was advertised on July 30, 2014, with bids received on August 21, 2014. A total of six bids were received as outlined in the chart below. One minor discrepancy was found in the bids received, WWW Construction had a slight math error which resulted in their bid price being reduced by $300. This did not impact the bid results. Peak Brothers Construction was the low bidder at $240,751.30. The engineer’s estimate for this project was $217,000.
