A Business Impact Statement is not required because this is not a rule.
Agenda Item Brief: The Edward M. Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program has offered the Sparks Police Department a Justice Assistance Grant in the amount $25,094 to provide funding for needed police equipment and training.

Background: The United States Department of Justice, Edward M. Byrne Justice Assistance Grant Program has been in existence for over a decade. The is program provides "formula" grants to law enforcement organization to assist them with their needs. The grantee can designate what portion of the grant funds will be used for several different categories of potential needs including equipment, training, travel, overtime and contract services. The amount of the grant is determined using a formula that takes into account several factors including population, part 1 crimes, and other factors.

Analysis: The funding would provide a means of supplying officers with needed equipment and training that would otherwise not be available.

Alternatives: The City can seek funding from other sources to meet these needs.

Recommended Motion: I move to accept the Justice Assistance grant in the amount $25,094 from the United States Department of Justice, Edward M. Byrne Memorial Grant Program.
