The suspect in the Reno Police Department officer involved shooting has been identified as Marcus Lee Lewis. Lewis has been charged with the following criminal offenses:

Resisting public officer with a dangerous weapon; a felony violation of NRS 199.280.2

Walking along and upon a highway; a misdemeanor violation of NRS 484B.297

This is still an active ongoing investigation; no further details will be released at this time.

The Sparks Police Department is the lead investigating agency for the Reno Police Department officer involved shooting that occurred in area of the Silver Legacy Casino on 12/4/22 around 6 a.m.  The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the Sparks Police Department in the investigation.

This incident originated as a call for service to the Reno Police Department for a welfare check of a bare foot subject who was possibly armed with a knife in the area of N. Virginia St. and E. 5th St. When officers contacted the suspect, he failed to follow their verbal commands and fled on foot. Officers pursued the suspect to the valet area of the Silver Legacy where they attempted to contain and control the suspect with the use of a taser. The taser was ineffective, the suspect continued to refuse to follow the officers verbal commands and shots were fired. Emergency medical aid was rendered on scene and the suspect was transported for further medical treatment. The suspect is in critical but stable condition. Due to the ongoing investigation the names of the suspect and the officers involved are being withheld.  

As a result of the investigation, investigators have learned at least one witness was present in the area when the shots were fired and immediately left the area prior to any contact with officers. The Sparks Police Department is asking anyone that may be a witness to this incident to contact the Sparks Police Department Investigations Division, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office or Secret Witness.
