Agenda Item Brief:

Staff will present an overview of current fiscal estimates for 2020/2021 (FY21) and 2021/2022 (FY22) fiscal years. Staff will also seek City Council's direction relating to fiscal policies to be integrated into the fiscal year FY22 budget.

Background:

This workshop is designed to provide an overview of the current estimates and other fiscal considerations relating to the FY21 and FY22 fiscal years. The City Manager is also seeking input from the City Council regarding fiscal policies to be integrated into the fiscal year FY22 budget. Based upon input and direction received today, the FY22 Tentative Budget will be prepared and filed with the State Department of Taxation on or before April 15, 2021, as required by Nevada law. The City Manager will then direct the creation of the City Manager's Final Budget recommendations. The City Manager's Final Budget recommendations are tentatively scheduled to be presented to the City Council and Redevelopment Agency for further input and possible approval on April 26, 2021.

Additionally, State law requires a public hearing on the Tentative Budget to be held by the governing body not sooner than the third Monday in May and not later than the last day in May. This year's public hearing on the FY22 Tentative Budget is scheduled for May 24, 2021. The City Manager currently intends to present the FY22 Final Budget to the City Council and Redevelopment Agency also on May 24, 2021 immediately following the public hearing on the FY22 Tentative Budget.
