General Business: 9.1
A Business Impact Statement is not required because this is not a rule.
The city’s policy governing the acceptance of bequests, devises, gifts, and donations of $5,000 or more require s the item to be presented to the City Council by the benefitting department as a general business or consent item. This item is presented as a donation from Renown Health Safe Kids Program for pedestrian safety equipment to enhance school areas. Specifically, Renown Health Safe Kids Program is donating two Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) systems to the City. City staff will be responsible for the installation and maintenance of the systems.
Background:
Analysis:
The City of Sparks will receive two Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) systems and our staff will install the systems. Future maintenance of the systems will be the responsibility of the City. The systems will be installed at the corner of Prater Way and 13th Street, near Robert Mitchell Elementary School and at the intersection of Lincoln Way and 4th Street, near Lincoln Park Elementary School. Please refer to the attached map for the locations. Both of these installations are on uncontrolled crosswalks and have been submitted to and supported by the Safe Routes to School Coordinator.
Alternatives:
- Council could accept the donation of pedestrian safety equipment as outlined by Staff.
- Council could reject the donation of pedestrian safety equipment and provide direction to the City Manager.
Recommended Motion:
I move to accept the donation of pedestrian safety equipment for school zones from Renown Health Safe Kids Program.
