Title: Public Hearing, consideration and possible approval of the abandonment of an approximate 9 foot by 130 foot, portion of the east side of Field Street right of way adjacent to Lot 16 Block 2, of Rosasco Subdivision granted to the City pursuant to Tract Map No. 597, as recorded September 4, 1958.

Recommendation: Staff recommends Council approve the abandonment of the approximate 9 foot by 130 foot portion of Field Street right of way adjacent to Lot 16 Block 2 as granted to the City by Tract Map No. 597 recorded September 4, 1958, as further described in the attached Exhibit “A.”

Agenda Item Brief: Consideration and possible approval of a request from Martin Sabels to abandon an approximate 9 foot by 130 foot portion of the east side of Field Street right of way granted to the City as Tract Map No. 597, containing an area of 1168 square feet, as further described in the attached Exhibit ”A.” Staff recommends approval.
Background: The width of road right of way on Field Street is 62.50 feet. The owner of the property located at the southeast corner of Fields Street and G Street has requested the abandonment of approximately 9 feet by 130 feet adjacent to his existing property. The property requested for abandonment is all located behind the existing curb line. The owner, through the Building Permit process, discovered his approved rental unit parking spaces were actually located on City right of way. This proposed abandonment will resolve the parking space issue.
Analysis: Staff recommends the Council approve the abandonment request from Martin Sables to vacate the approximately 9 feet by 130 feet portion of the east side of Fields Street, as described in the attached Exhibit “A.” The road right of way proposed for abandonment is not required for road purposes now or in the future. The abandonment of the road right of way will return a 1,168 square feet parcel to the tax rolls, and resolve a parking space issue.
Alternatives: 1. The City Council could approve the abandonment as outlined by staff. 2. The City Council could reject the abandonment and provide direction to the City Manager. 3. The City Council could direct the City Manager to provide alternatives to this proposal.
Recommended Motion: “I move to approve the vacation of a portion of Field Street as outlined by staff.”
