Agenda Item Brief:

Mayor Smith has appointed Neil C. Krutz as the next Sparks City Manager, effective March 15, 2019. Per the City Charter Sec. 1.080, para. 1, the Mayor's appointment of a City Manager is subject to the Council's confirmation. This action coincides with retirement of the current City Manager, Steve Driscoll, on March 14, 2019.

Background:

The current City Manager, Steve Driscoll, tendered notice of retirement as part of his last contract extension, effective March 14, 2019. This action necessitates appointment and confirmation to fill the position. The Mayor has appointed Neil C. Krutz as the next Sparks City Manager and this appointment is subject to the Council's confirmation.

Analysis:

Per Sparks City Charter, Section 1.080, para.1, “The Mayor of the City shall appoint a City Manager, subject to confirmation by the City Council.”

Alternatives:

The City Council may deny the appointment.

Recommended Motion:

I move to confirm Mayor Smith’s appointment of Neil C. Krutz as Sparks City Manager, effective March 15, 2019.
