Title: Consideration, discussion and possible approval of a construction contract (AC-5541) for the Alf Sorensen Small Wonders Playground project informal quote, in the amount of $72,927.95 to Garden Shop Nursery Landscaping Division, Inc.

Recommendation: Staff recommends Council approve the construction contract with Garden Shop Nursery Landscaping Division, Inc, in the amount of $72,927.65.
Financial Impact: This project will utilize budget of $72,927.65 from Project 19-1901 (Currently $74,058.17 available).

     A Business Impact Statement is not required because this is not a rule.
Agenda Item Brief:

This project will consist of removing the existing twenty-year-old playground and miscellaneous concrete, installing a new two (2) to five (5) year old playground supplied by the City, playground tiles, and miscellaneous concrete.  Staff recommends approval of the construction contract.



Background:

Council approved the FY 19 CIP budget with $100,000 for the Alf Sorensen Small Wonders Playground project.  This project is to remove the existing original playground, miscellaneous concrete, install a new two (2) to five (5) year old playground with playground tiles, and pour new concrete sidewalk and curb. 

The City has already purchased the new two (2) to five (5) year old playground that will be supplied to the contractor for installation.



Analysis:

The project was informally quoted to three local contractors.  Staff has reviewed the informal quotes, found no irregularities, and recommends award of the informal quote submitted by Garden Shop Nursery Landscaping Division, Inc, in the amount of $72,927.65, which includes a force account of $3,500 to correct unforeseen conditions, if required.

A detailed bid recap along with a map showing the limits of construction are also attached for Council’s review.

Recommended Motion:

I move to approve the construction contract (AC-5541) for the Alf Sorensen Small Wonders Playground project in the amount of $72,927.65 to Garden Shop Nursery Landscaping Division, Inc., as recommended by staff.
