The Sparks Parks and Recreation Commission is recommending that the City Council name the Victorian Square Amphitheater Tony Armstrong Amphitheater.
Background:
In 2017, the Sparks Parks and Recreation Commission reinstated the Park/Facility Naming Sub-Committee consisting of two residents, three Parks and Recreation Commissioners and one Parks and Recreation staff member (non-voting).
In an attempt to maximize public input, staff distributed information through The Foothills at Wingfield HOA, achieved 4,000 contacts through the NEXTDOOR App, mailed 1,900 letters to residents in The Foothills at Wingfield, mailed 1,900 letters to residents in The Foothills at Wingfield, distributed a press release to traditional media outlets and sent an e-blast to 5,000 customers. As a result, six suggestions for the Victorian Square Amphitheater were received.
Analysis:
Through a scoring process, the Sparks Parks and Recreation Commission recommends that the City Council name the Victorian Square Amphitheater Tony Armstrong Amphitheater.
Alternatives:
The City Council may approve the recommended name of Tony Armstrong Amphitheater for the Victorian Square Amphitheater located on Victorain Avenue.
The City Council may elect not to accept the recommended name of Tony Armstrong Amphitheater for the Victorian Square Amphitheater located on Victorain Avenue and give the City Manager further direction.
Recommended Motion:
I move to approve naming the Victorian Square Amphitheater Tony Armstrong Amphitheater.
