Petitioner/Presenter: Teresa Gardner, City Clerk/Teresa Gardner, City Clerk
Recommendation: Council adopt the Ordinance.

Business Impact (Per NRS 237):

A Business Impact Statement is not required because this is not a rule.
Agenda Item Brief:

Pursuant to NRS 283C.110 and Sparks City Charter, Article V, Section 5.030, the City Council shall provide for the holding of the election, appointment of the necessary election officers and election boards, and adopt by Ordinance all regulations.

In addition, the Ordinance identifies election dates, municipal offices seeking candidates, the agreement with Washoe County to conduct the election and sets the filing fees.

Background:

Adoption of an Ordinance providing for the conducting and holding the municpal elections is required by Nevada Revised Statutes and the Sparks City Charter.

Analysis:

It is cost effective for the City of Sparks to contract with Washoe County to allow the Registrar of Voters to conduct the city's elections for 2018. The primary election will be held on the 12th day of June 2018, and the general election will be held on the 6th day of November 2018. The current filing fee for municipal offices is set at $30.

Alternatives:

The City Council could direct the City Manager to conduct the city's election as a stand alone election at a substantially higher cost.

Recommended Motion:

I move to adopt Bill No. 2730, an Ordinance providing for the conducting and holding of the 2018 municipal elections.
