Title: Consideration and possible approval to purchase seven vehicles from Carson Dodge in the amount of $193,186.75 during the 2016 fiscal year.

Recommendation: Staff recommends that Council approve the purchase of these vehicles from Carson Dodge in the amount of $193,186.75 during the 2016 fiscal year.
Financial Impact: $75,222.75 in Development Services Enterprise Fund 2201 as a new need that was approved by Council in the FY 2016 budget. $84,000 was budgeted for this expense and $84,000 of budget authority is currently available.

Agenda Item Brief:

Fleet Services is requesting approval to purchase three vehicles for Building and Public Works Inspectors in the amount of $75,222.75; three vehicles for the Police Department in the amount of $84, 462.75; and one vehicle for Drains O&M in the amount of $33,501.25.



Background:

Staff is requesting approval to purchase three Dodge Ram Quad Cab 1500 4x4 short bed pick-ups as new needs to support additional staffing approved in the FY 2016 budget by the Council for the Community Services Department. Two trucks will be for Building Inspectors and one for Public Works Inspection New Development.  Previous units were liquidated due to staff reduction and budget cuts during the economic down turn from 2008.

Staff is requesting approval to purchase three new patrol cars for the Police Department to replace #241K, 244J, 234L. These vehicles have reached the end of their life cycle with the Police Department and were scheduled for replacement during the 2016 fiscal year.

Staff is requesting approval to purchase one Dodge Ram pickup for Drains O&M due to a shortage of vehicles in that department.



Analysis:

In sourcing these vehicles, if approved, the City will be utilizing the “joinder” provision allowed under NRS 332.115, and purchasing these vehicles utilizing the state of Nevada vehicle bid. Utilizing existing bids have historically been the most completive. Utilizing the “joiner” provision allows the City to precisely define the vehicles needed while foregoing the need to formally bid the item.
