Committee appointment.

Background:

The City of Sparks Planning Commission has one vacancy due to the resignation of Commissioner Barbara Sanders. Commissioner Sanders is retiring and relocating to Henderson.

Analysis:

Mr. Petersen will serve the remainder of Commissioner Sanders' term, through December 31, 2017. Mr. Petersen will then have the opportunity to be reappointed for additional terms. Mr. Petersen has ten years experience with the Nevada Department of Prisons as the Assistant Chief of Plant Operations and 40 years experience as a masonry contractor with the state of Nevada. Mr. Peterson has also served on the Washoe County Board of Adjustments, Washoe County CAB Board for Galena Creek and the Washoe County Design and Review Committee.

Announcement of the vacancy was made at the April 27, 2015 City Council meeting and five applications were received. Council must confirm the appointment.

Alternatives:

If the Council rejects the appointment of Mr. Frank Petersen, the Mayor shall appoint another person from the remaining applications and Council shall consider ratification either at the present meeting or at the next regularly scheduled meeting of the Council.

Recommended Motion:

I move to confirm the appointment of Frank M. Petersen to the Sparks Planning Commission.
