Agenda Item Brief:

This item will allow the City Council to discuss and support a Resolution addressing Veteran Homelessness.



Background:

This item will allow the City Council to discuss and support a joint initiative of joining forces, US Interagency Council on Homelessness, US Department of Housing and Urban Development, and US Department of Veterans Affairs.

A growing coalition of mayors, governors, and local elected officials are calling to end veteran homlessness in their respective communities.  Mayor Martini is asking the City Council to support the goal of the Mayors' Challenge to End Veteran Homelessness and that every veteran should have access to permanent housing and the support to achieve stability.

Tony Ramirez, Field Office Director for the US Department of Housing and Urban Development will be on hand to present the joining forces program in futher detail, along with Elizabeth Pope from the Veterans Administration and Peter Vogel, Chairman of the Reno Area Alliance for the Homeless.
