Consent Items: 8.5

Title: Consideration and possible approval to purchase one RAM 5500 Chassis w/ Harbor Rancher Body and one RAM 1500 from Carson Dodge in the amount of $79,351.50.
Petitioner/Presenter: Neil C. Krutz, Deputy City Manager/Ron Korman, Public Works Manager
Recommendation: Staff recommends that Council approve the purchase of this vehicle from Carson Dodge in the amount of $79,351.50.
Financial Impact: $79,351.50 in Motor Vehicle Fund 1702. $1,175,376.00 was approved for project #16-7500, Vehicle & Equipment Replacement Plan in the FY16, and $653,774.96 of budget authority is currently available. $ 30,210.90 of replacement funds have been collected in this fund for this purchase.
Total Costs: $79,351.50
Fund: Motor Vehicle Maintenance    Account: 604080
Program: 1702 Vehicle & Equip Replacement Plan (16-7500)
Amount: $79,351.50    Budget Status: Budget Exists
Business Impact (Per NRS 237):
A Business Impact Statement is not required because this is not a rule.
Agenda Item Brief:

Equipment Services is requesting authorization to spend $52,406.25 to replace GMC 3500 small dump truck, vehicle #534A, and $26,945.25 to replace #478A a Ford Explorer.

This request is for the replacement of GMC 3500 small dump truck, vehicle #534A, and a 2004 Ford Explorer #478A. These vehicles have maintenance costs that exceed the value of the vehicles, and no longer meet the needs of the Drains and Sewer Departments. 534A will be sold at auction at a later date, and 478A may be reused as a “loaner Vehicle” for the City Garage.

In sourcing these vehicles, if approved, the City would be using the joinder provision allowed under NRS 332.195, and purchasing this vehicle utilizing the State of Nevada vehicle bid. Utilizing existing bids have historically been the most competitive. Utilizing the “joinder” provision allows the City to precisely define the vehicles needed while foregoing the need to formally bid the item.

  1. Council could approve this purchase as outlined by staff.
  2. Council could deny this purchase.
  3. Council could direct staff to provide alternatives to this purchase.

Recommended Motion:

I move to approve the purchase of this vehicle from Carson Dodge in the amount of $79,351.50.
